The human body is comprised of many different systems all working together in harmony, helping us to live our best life. The endocrine system is a collection of glands in charge of producing numerous hormones, each responsible for a wide range of vital tasks from regulating metabolism to sexual function. The thyroid is probably the most well-known in the endocrine system, primarily as a scape goat for those struggling with weight-loss. The pineal gland may be tiny, but its importance is monumental. The overlooked pineal gland is a mighty melatonin secreting hormone, helping regulate our sleep-wake cycle.  Aside from a being a super sleep-aid, melatonin is an all-star antioxidant and an amazing anti-inflammatory. The pee-sized pineal gland is believed to be your personal powerhouse, able to unlock one’s own psychic awareness. Taoists referred to the pineal gland as the heavenly eye, while in Buddhism, a symbol of spiritual awakening. Hinduism believes the third eye is one of the many energy centers in the body, more commonly know as chakras.  the third eye or the anja chakra is associated with an awareness of light.Yoga has helped the anja chakrareach celebrity status with the help of a lovely two-petalled lotus. A free flow of energy or open chakras lead to clarity, empathy, focus, imagination and intuition. There is no shortage of references to the third eye throughout history. The mystic third eye is referenced in the book of Matthew, ancient Greece and depicted in hieroglyphics adorning pyramid walls in Egypt.

Ditch the conventional cleaners for plant-based ones or break out the vinegar and baking soda for economical earth loving options. Adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil will leave your house fruity or floral fresh.

Pitch the polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) pots and pans and install water filters. A daily dose of deodorant equals aluminum, toothpaste includes triclosan and mighty mouthwash is rainbow bright with a little help from artificial dye. A splendid spa day may entail a fresh coat of fabulous formaldehyde fingers and toes. With so many products claiming to be natural, cruelty-free or boasting to contain only a few organic ingredients, navigating which companies are clean is frustrating. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a fabulous forum for fact checking an endless list of items. Their data base is always up to date with the latest and greatest tips. EWG is responsible for the Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce or the hip annual Clean Fifteen and Dirty Dozen lists. They even offer a healthy living app, making it a snap for on-the-go decisions. Look for products that are EWG verified.
